Weekly food collection Contact: Ed Robinson: 926-1770.
Non-perishable food is collected weekly and placed in the basket by the Shelton Rd. door. Once a month it is delivered to St. Pauls/St. Lukes, an inner city church, for use by needy families.
Golden Hill UMC Community Suppers Contact: Ed Robinson, 926-1770.
A meal is prepared and served every 5th Wednesday to homeless and needy people at Golden Hill UMC in Bridgeport. One crew prepares the meal while another serves.
Luvin Oven Contact: Peter Lavitola, 445-0284
Group prepares a meal once a month in the church kitchen for shut-ins and other church members who might benefit from some TLC. There is a small charge to cover cost of the food.
Reading Partners Contact: Carole Wonsiewicz, 375-2281
Volunteers aged 14 and up are sought for after-school mentoring and tutoring program for K-3 graders at Longfellow School in Bridgeport.
Sandwiches for Merton House Contact: Gail Terrell, 459-1225.
Prepared every fourth Saturday in the church kitchen at 8:30 a.m. for clients of Merton House, a soup kitchen in Bridgeport. Preparation takes less than an hour. The sandwiches replace their daily meal.
Wicke Health Center United Methodist Homes Contact: Polly Owen, 377-0468
Volunteer opportunities are available at this nursing home in Shelton. A group from Nichols visits Wicke on the first Monday of each month where they lead a sing-a-long and provide snacks.
Covenant to Care Contact: Liz Rehbock, 386-0351
Works with social workers to provide support to abused, neglected and impoverished children. Birthday gifts are collected in May, school supplies in August, Thanksgiving baskets provided in November, and Christmas gifts for children in December. Also clothing and furniture collected in cases of need.
Bridgeport Rescue Mission Contact: Brenda or John Braun, 377-3026
Provides food pantry, hot meals, shelter for men, rehab program and mobile feeding program which goes out every night but Sunday to a different part of Bridgeport. They accept clothing and welcome volunteers.
Center for Women and Families. Contact: Joan Gould, 268-8957
Supports women and families impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. Provides a safe shelter in the Greater Bridgeport area as well as counseling. Toiletries are welcomed and may be left in a marked bag in the Shelton Road closet
Janus House Center for Youth in Crisis Contact: Don Gibson, 452-7045
Serves Greater Bridgeport youth, ages 11-17, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and are not under the supervision of the Dept. of Children and Families. It offers a 24-hour hotline, safe places, and two host homes. Additional host homes are needed for emergencies.
Project Learn Contact: Phyllis Grafton, 386-8973
An after-school program at Summerfield UMC in Bridgeport providing homework assistance, snacks, and a safe, loving environment. It is sponsored by the Bridgeport Council of Churches. Needs are for tutors and school supplies. Canisters, marked Project Learn are located in the sacristy. .
CROP Walk for Hunger Contact: Jen Shafer, 378-5159
On the first Sunday in May, hundreds of walkers from the surrounding area solicit pledges and walk 3.5 miles in Bridgeport in an effort to help poor countries break the cycle of hunger and learn to feed themselves. 25% of the money collected stays in Bridgeport and goes to food pantries.

Annual summer picnic for the patrons of Merton House. A committee prepares Sloppy Joes, beans, corn, watermelon, brownies and lemonade.
