Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton currently serves as the spiritual leader of the United Methodist congregations in the New York and New England Annual Conferences. Appointed in 2016 to the New York Conference and in 2024 to New England, he also serves on several leadership committees within the church. Elected as a Bishop in 2004, Bishop Bickerton previously led the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference. His ministry experience spans diverse settings and has driven significant growth in membership and outreach.
Bishop Bickerton holds degrees in sociology, psychology, divinity, and ministry, and has
taught Wesleyan doctrine. He has been deeply involved in global mission efforts and
chaired the United Methodist Church’s Global Health Initiative, raising over $75 million
to fight malaria. Bishop Bickerton is also an author and enjoys sports, travel, and
photography. He and his wife Sally have four children and several grandchildren.
